Charlottetown and PEI Destinations

The Mi’kmaq called the island Epekwitk, ‘’lying in the water’’. The French called it Île St-Jean. It is now known as Prince Edward Island.

No more recognized only for being the home to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864 that led Canada into becoming a nation, Prince Edward Island and Charlottetown are now world-renowned for the beauty of the scenery as well as a past that mixes 12,000 years of aboriginal occupation, European migrations, heartbreaking stories, but also colorful inhabitants, tales of the sea and a story that involve a red-hair girl that made the Island famous all over the world.

Charlottetown was incorporated as a city in 1855, but had seen Mi’kmaq presence there 2,000 years ago, attracted by the easy access to the whole island.

A city with many contrasts, the CUA 2022 venue offers the charm and lifestyle of a small historical island town, but also the commodities of a modern and thriving city, with two institutions of higher-education and the biotechnology and information technology industries being the two fastest growing sectors in the city.
